Executive Director Attends Advanced Management Institute

Maxine McKinney, VAHSA Executive Director, recently attended the Johnson & Johnson – UCLA Management Fellows Advanced Management Institute. Twenty years ago, J&J and the Anderson School of Business at UCLA teamed up to deliver high level strategic training to Head Start leaders. Each summer, the program brings another class of Head Start leaders to the UCLA campus for what becomes for most of them a life-changing experience. Maxine was a part of the class of 1993, truly one of the “old timers” now!  The January event, held every year for three days, provides an opportunity for former “fellows” to return to sharpen their skills.

Curt Weeden, former J&J executive who pioneered this program, returned for the 20th anniversary celebration as well.  He said, “Few if any administrators in this country are confronted with so many multitasking demands as Head Start executives.” Can you relate?!?

Maxine says that one of the most beneficial parts of the program for her this year was learning more about Board development. “Once again, I feel that J&J and UCLA have given me skills I need to move the Association and its work forward. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this exciting program.”
